Artist Statement, Rebeca Alvarez

My main goal as an artist and for my work is to make a difference on how stories are told and perceived. As a result, I love to constantly draw and discover new and unique ways to interpret the world around me, in order to apply it to ideas that have not been visually depicted yet.
My biggest influence as a developing artist is the work by concept artists, specifically in the animated film industry. A lot of the work that I look at by these artists is fresh and new, with exaggerated and beautiful lines that inspire me to push my work to a more professional level.

I carry my sketchbook with me at all times so that I am constantly drawing and coming up with new ideas as I polish my skills. I work in different mediums in order to expand my possibilities and experiment with line weight. A lot of my work develops from loose and spontaneous sketches because they have more life and excitement to them. Overall I hope to continue pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone in order to create new and exciting work.
