I feel like the design is really good here! But they feel very stoic and uninteresting. I would love to see them in a pose that says more of who they are--but as is they fulfill their purpose! The bird's feathering is off putting... there should be some smaller feathers on the wings--I wouldn't make this note if you hadn't put such emphasis on the feathers, but since you did, I have to say they're just not quite right. Putting down the gesture and generic shape of the feathers would suffice!
The second one has more potential to me. It looks super fantastical and out there- which I think this project calls for. Your rendering on both need a little more work. Play with shapes in the design. Use what we learned in character design for your design choices.
You did a really good job with the fur texture and how you handled your values. I would love to see this in more of a gestured pose.
